Summerlea is located in the west end of Edmonton and is primarily known for one major tourist and local community attraction: the West Edmonton Mall. This large piece of property occupies the majority of the southern half of Summerlea.
The West Edmonton Mall features numerous shops, movie theaters, a water park, an amusement park, fine and casual dining as well as popular hotel. Summerlea is bordered by 170 Street, 178 Street, 95 Avenue and 87 Avenue.
Construction in this diverse and bustling neighbourhood began in the 1970s and there are approximately 600 dwellings in the community. This includes single-family homes, duplexes, condos, and senior housing. There is a housing option in Summerlea for every type of home owner. Along with the West Edmonton Mall, Summerlea has a large number of convenient amenities including gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants.

The Summerlea Community League was established i 1985 and continues to thrive thanks to a strong community base. A popular destination for families and individuals is the Summerlea Park - bring a blanket and relax for the afternoon, bring a frisbee or just relax on one of the many benches with a good book.
